On a recent trip to the Big Y in Northampton, MA, our Savvy Organic Shopper found competitive prices on organic fruit, helping her stick to her New Year’s resolution to make healthy food choices. She found organic apples for $1.59 per pound (conventional were $1.69 per pound), organic pears for $1.99 per pound (conventional were the same price), and organic bananas for $.99 per pound (conventional were the same price). So, by choosing organic, she was able to load her shopping cart with fresh, affordable fruit and feel confident that had been grown without the use of harmful pesticides and fertilizers.
